Michael R. Mijares, MD, FAOOS

Dr. Michael R. Mijares is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery, and complex reconstruction of the shoulder, hip, and knee. A Miami native at heart, Dr. Mijares combines advanced surgical expertise with a patient-centered approach rooted in precision, compassion, and performance-driven recovery. 

He earned his Bachelor of Science from Vanderbilt University and his Medical Doctorate with Highest Honors from Ross University School of Medicine. Dr. Mijares completed his Orthopedic Surgery residency at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami, where he served as Chief Resident, and went on to complete a prestigious fellowship in Sports Medicine, Arthroscopy, and Reconstructive Surgery at the renowned Southern California Orthopedic Institute (SCOI) in Los Angeles. There, he trained under pioneers of minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery and cutting-edge biologic treatments. 

Dr. Mijares has published research in arthroscopy and fracture surgery and remains dedicated to advancing orthopedic innovation. He has served as Assistant Team Physician for the Miami Marlins, University of Miami Hurricanes football and women’s soccer teams, and several local high school athletic programs. 

Outside the operating room, Dr. Mijares is a devoted husband and father of four. He stays active through CrossFit, surfing, and triathlon training—embodying his philosophy that every patient is, and always will be, an athlete in motion.
